Paddington - 50p.

Until I caught Herself rifling through the cinema takings, I was unaware that Paddington had been commemorated on some of our 50 pence pieces; allegedly to commemorate his diamond jubilee – in fact, the coins started being minted in August, 61 years after the publication of the first book. Some specimens are being sold for thousands of pounds on ebay!
Other cuddly characters have been similarly celebrated, including The Gruffalo and Stephen Hawking,
