My travel drawer

In the bottom drawer of my desk, I keep everything I need, other than clothes and toothbrush, for a quick getaway. The brown leather folder contains my U.S. and Italian passports, leftover euros and pounds, and subway travel cards for three European cities. (I am including my Oyster card in that category because London is still, as of this writing, part of Europe.) The pink notebook is for taking notes on current writing projects. There are also various city maps, converter plugs for different regions of the world, and the keys to my Berkeley house, attached to a keychain from the Groucho Club, to which I belonged for a few years in the 1990s.
(I discontinued my membership when it got too pricey, which was also about the time Berlin replaced London as my most frequently visited city on the other side of the Atlantic.)
