Short Cuts
The Augustow canal was built to avoid paying the Prussians. A marvel of its times, it allowed taking a short cut to the Black sea, but more generally access to the Baltic port of Ventspils without paying a swingeing transport tax. It gave Poland its first telephone line. The waterway has been substantially repaired both in Poland and Belorus. It would be nice to see the return of barges.
I picked D. up from the bus from Bialystok. She seems to have had a great time on the way back from Warsaw with the Gs. Dodzia has recovered quickly from her skydiving incident. She took a short cut down the stairs but broke her fall on a plant pot.
I now have a card reader, a bottle of malt whisky(thank you E.) and some more learning to do. No shortcuts to that.
