Salt shed

New York’s Department of Sanitation maintains a number of large storage facilities for the winter salt it sprinkles on the roads to counter skidding and slipping. This one, the most recently built, was designed to resemble a salt crystal, with its weird angles shaped out of beautifully formed concrete. Located at the corner of Spring Street and the West Side Highway, it’s one of my favorite new buildings in New York.
