Advent Calendar Day 1 - Through the woods

For most of the year it was possible to travel from one side of the forest to the other during the hours of daylight. But, for a few weeks on either side of the solstice, even if you entered the trees as the sun rose, there was always the possibility of not emerging from the darkness before the sun set. Most people preferred to take the long way around- a journey of several days. Or just to wait until the days were longer.

He was beginning to wish that he had followed their lead.
