MonoMonday: Secret Weapon
I'm not sure if this will work as a (not so) secret weapon in Blackheath's current battle regarding the highway going through town.
Despite having almost finished about 12 months of "safety upgrade" roadworks, as recently described by hobbs, the authorities are now talking about the next one.
This has really got the locals going:
* the good folk of Station Street (where this house is located) don't want it there,
* the environmentalists won't stand for an outer bypass through the bush,
* expansion through the centre of town doesn't suit me,
* no doubt moving it away from the centre of town wouldn't suit businesses not directly affected but who might lose business,
* the very expensive option of a tunnel comes with ventilation stacks which are apparently unacceptable,
* everyone (except those living near the railway line) would like more use of freight trains but I'm not sure how feasible that would be.
When I asked one local activist's opinion it was "do nothing, we don't want any of those".
So I guess we just go on whinging about the trucks roaring through town and the traffic jams at weekends.
So a secret weapon is needed. Thanks Carolina for this rather difficult topic.
BTW I blipped this house when it was sold "for the experienced renovator" a couple of years ago. Understanding the new owners don't want it resumed now.
Irene's funeral today. Maybe the biggest I've ever attended (and the 4th in 5 weeks).
There was no room inside and it was bitterly cold outside but a fitting send off to a remarkable, much loved lady and stalwart of the community.
