Scary!
I’m backblipping this image from Sunday. This was the scene as we were nearing our destination on the South Coast. The park we were booked into near Bawley Point is right on the water and we had two wonderful sites that were just that. All seemed well until we were confronted with this scene. My friends were just in front of me with their two beautiful little Schnauzers on board and had the same reaction. When we reached the park there was a woman from the Fire Service there advising the campers that the fire was being fanned by westerly winds and that we should think seriously about leaving before they were forced to close the road and then we would be staying there and at the mercy of the elements. Well of course it only took us a second to do a U turn and drive back north to a safe haven. Interestingly we were suprised to receive an alert on our mobile phones telling us that we should leave, it was an official alert from the fire service.
There is a big fire in the Blue Mountains at the moment and I have been watching that anxiously on an excellent App called Fires in My Area. It gives regular updates so that residents and tourists can keep updated on the situation almost in real time.
