Down on the farm
Monday 2nd December 2019
I found it difficult to function today so not very productive. This is the only photo taken, on my phone from the car window as I arrived at the farm for a visit late afternoon. The light was very dull. I came away with a stalk of sprouts!
Laptop Update - no need to read further!
Getting harder to keep mine going. Did a bit of research today and rang Dell themselves to ask about the production of the one I had been looking at. I was told "gosh, that's an old processor". He kept trying to sell me a laptop £250 more than I intended and ignored my statement of maximum budget.
It got me thinking and I was concerned I had been about to buy a machine that wasn't very "future proof", as much as any computer ever can be future proof. More thinking and research later on, I used the Dell online chat support to ask advice. This time someone listened to my budget and needs and made a recommendation. I had to compromise on storage but it sounded a better machine and I can add more storage on an after sales service if necessary. I had to end the chat as I was going out.
Back after my evening meeting I searched reviews of processors. Why do they have to make them so complicated and call them different generations and numbers? I gather i7 is better than i5 and 10th generation is better than 8th but why do we then have to have an 8th gen i7 and a 10th gen i7 both with other numbers after them that also affect the performance? It is gobbledygook language designed to catch us out!
After my mind was scrambled and after a lot of self debating I placed an order for a new laptop with 1hr 40mins spare to gain the 15% off Cyber Monday deal, a saving of £120 which could go towards the upgrade. It should arrive on Wednesday. Let's hope I've made the right decision! Trouble is, I've managed to buy a machine that will take a lot of setting up just at the busiest time of year!!!
