Dusk from Village
I got up early and drove to Teignmouth in anticipation of another stunning sunrise. As I approached the top of the hill I could see the beginnings of an orange dawn as a bright stripe across the horizon.
Parked up and walked Cas along the beach as it was still a few hours from high tide. Blimey it was cold!
The dawn didn't develop and very soon any colour drained away.
Back home to be told that there was squeaking coming from the log store!!
On investigation Ratty jumped out. With a certain amount of trepidation, I removed everything from the store including a bag of wild bird food. I had completely forgotten I had put it in there. A magnet for rats.
Living up a country lane, surrounded by fields, we occasionally have problems with rats. A couple of years ago they nested in the garage ruining so much stuff. The smell is unbelievable.
So today, after emptying the store I had a boot full of ruined stuff for the tip.
Left the dogs in the house and set off out of the village and joined the dual carriageway into town. The car came to a controlled halt as it suddenly lost all power. Traffic whizzing past I got out and hopped over the barrier.
As I was phoning for help an RAC van pulled in to assist. Even though Im with the other lot he didn't mind. After asking me what happened he tried the key and the car started.
The kind man escorted me to the next junction so I could do an about turn and get back to our village and the local garage. I was so grateful of his help.
Car was' diagnosed' and a couple of faults showed up. Car tinkered with, then driven and diagnosed again. No faults showing.
The car stank with all the stuff for the tip so Paul in the garage deserves a medal. He'll certainly be getting a Christmas Present from me.
So now, this evening I am faced with a decision.
Do I drive the car to photo club 8 miles away, along the same bit of dual carriageway?
I must admit the thought of breaking down in the dark scares me but if I don't drive my car tonight, when will I?
I've decided to give it a go.
If you're reading this tonight please keep your fingers and toes (don't mention toes!!) crossed for me.
