The Road to Walden

The sky was beautiful this morning. I pulled over on the airfield at Saffron Walden to take a quick photo.
It’s ironic that at this time of year, when the children are most tired and under the weather, suffering from bugs and viruses, it’s also the most busy. We’ve had a lot of tears, tales, strops and arguments. The staff are fed up and tired and everyone is looking forward to the end of term. As well as the Christmas Fayre, 3 Nativity performances and a Christingle service to prepare for, we are being nagged about data. It’s all about the numbers! We NEED to get more children to ‘exceeding’ by the end of the year. Everyone should reach at least the ‘expected’ level. Failure is NOT an option! I love my job but crikey, they’re children not robots.

The children wrote speech bubbles for nativity characters today. Looking at a picture of Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem:
‘So poor Mary, she’s tired, it’s hot and dusty, she’s about to have a baby and she’s riding on a donkey. What do you think she’s saying to Joseph?’
‘We need to get a car’.

And that’s a true story!
