Weirs

The four weirs on the River Gryfe once ponded back water supplies for the textile then tanning mills here in the appropriately named Bridge of Weir. The parapet is on the five arch former railway viaduct of 1860. Glasgow and South Western westbound locos used to roar across here on their way from Glasgow to Princes Pier Greenock until the 1960s. The whole line closed in 1982
