Pont des Nagas
Our last day in Cambodia and I was up early to catch the sunrise from the hotel rooftop restaurant. A lovely scene with the sun rising over the two rivers ie Tonle Sap and Mekong. The temperature was beautifully warm and birds were beginning to sing. I then returned to our room to watch the street scene below. Two school boys were standing by a stall where a man was barbequing some food on sticks and other people were setting up their stalls. A bicycle very heavily laden with meat carcasses slung over the front was very slowly being cycled down the road, the cyclist wearing a plastic overall over his body. The two boys waited until a woman came across and then they set off down the road.
We had our breakfast and had a free day until late afternoon when we would be driven to the airport. It was beginning to get very hot as we wandered along the riverside before turning off for Wat Phnom a Buddhist temple set on a hill surrounded by trees. It is a popular temple and at the entrance there are sellers of lotus flowers and various other offerings, incense and food that can be purchased. We next headed to the central market an ornate building with lots of jewellery and piles of watches on sale in the centre areas. Various other items including clothing and silk pieces followed with more usual everyday household items on the outside. After a coffee we headed back to the hotel to pack. We walked across this bridge with its Nagas on either side. If you look at the people in the photo you see they are well covered up, I hadn't realised that when it is so hot you need to actually keep yourself well covered with loose clothing. It was then a late lunch at a favourite restaurant with a view of the river before heading back to the hotel and our taxi to the airport.
Its been an exciting enjoyable and enlightening holiday and one we won't forget for a long time.
