lst letterbox of the year.

I went for a quick walk on the moors this morning with Meg inbetween the showers and found my first letterbox of the year.

For those who don't know Letterboxing is where people hide boxes on the moor for you to find, it's a brilliant way to keep children entertained on a walk, they love trying to find the boxes hidden in cracks and crevasses. Inside the boxes are normally a pad/book, pen/pencil, stamp and ink pad - the idea being you have your own stamp and using the ink pad provided (if you don't have your own) stamp in the boxes pad/book, maybe leave a message again with the pen/pencil provided ( if you don't have one) and stamp the boxes stamp into your own pad/book.

You can keep a record of who owns the box, where and when you found it - there are lists and books of offical letterboxes that you can trace using GPS and directions, although you can find quite a lot of them with just a keen eye and inquisitive children.

I keep meaning to make up our own box for people to find - maybe this year I'll get a waterproof box, stamp, pad, book & pen and find a secret place to hide it and see who finds it.
