Australasian coot feeding its young
A lovely walk today, time to reflect on yet another New Zealand tragedy. for a small country we seem to have more than our share of disasters.
For the poor people impacted by the White Island volcano eruption their lives will never be the same for the ones that have survived, and for the families of those that have perished. The bravery of the first responders - who were just private individuals, is incredible, and the fact that they rescued so many is remarkable.
There is a lot more to come out yet, with people still missing presumed dead.
White Island is an amazing place, and it may be that landing on the island is never allowed again, in which case I'm very glad to have been there.
