#ToMe
My Dear Fellows and Dear Princess Normal,
Another busy day at work. I spent a lot of it listening to podcasts. This became apparent when I sent a file for Charlotte to review, and she said, "What do you mean, 'This film is used to track the follow-up date'?"
"Oh," I said. "That should be 'field' not 'film'. I listen to a lot of film podcasts."
"You don't say," she replied.
Another podcast I've been listening to makes for depressing but compelling listening. It is Ronan Farrow's Catch and Kill podcast, which is all about his part in exposing the Harvey Weinstein conspiracy.
I think like a lot of people, when the story broke, I thought, "Oh, just another pervert has been caught." All that was surprising to me, was the scale of it, and the length of time it had been going on for.
But yeesh, this podcast and Farrow's accompanying book has shaken me. It's like this conspiracy horror thriller where his investigation keeps getting shut down or delayed or downplayed by men who ALSO have allegations hanging over them. It is freaky just how many of Farrow's co-workers and friends sat on the story because they'd been doing exactly the same sort of thing. They are like this whole effing w*nker support group.
There's also the regular types of pressure being exerted on people to shut up, of course. Legal action, political contributions and influence, all of that stuff. I expected that. But this book has me out-cynicism-ed.
Sorry. Today's blip is a bit depressing. To be honest, I can only listen to the book for an hour at a time. Then I need to listen to 80's music to cheer up again.
S.
