Griffins
Today being hopelessly wet and dark, I scratched about in the cathedral for a blip. That's where I came across this little line of griffins, at the base of a step. There only about 6 of them of which these are the clearest.
Most of the medieval floor tiles in the building are a bigger and presumably newer. Their designs tend to be stars and similar geometric patterns mixed in with fleurs de lis. Also very wonderful, but by contrast these little griffins are so supple and fluid.
I read on Wikipedia that in Medieval heraldry the griffin became a symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine, though they've been around thousands of years longer than Christianity. Not these little people though ;))
Apart from that, rather a lot of today has been taken up wrapping and posting Christmas parcels. Another tick off the list, but the truth is every day I'm getting a bit further behind on the preps.. How about you?
Happy Tuesday evening xx
