In and around Humshaugh - carols
Tonight the carol singers were out in force in the village. We were thrilled that they came to us. I managed to get Mum onto a seat by the door to listen to them, although it was a bit chilly for her.
It's been a lovely winter's day. I walked with the Intermediate walkers from Haltwhistle, up by Haltwhistle Burn (looking lovely) and on to Cawfields Quarry (by a very muddy route). The views were excellent across Hadrian's Wall and to the north.
On our way back to Haltwhistle, we "called in" at John and Jennifer's soup kitchen. Lunch was from a choice of three soups with breads and cheese, etc., etc., followed by mince pies, etc., etc. It was a feast.
They do this every year to celebrate John's birthday, although it's not until Saturday when they will be celebrating more grandly.
Twenty four of us enjoyed their hospitality. In previous years it has always rained heavily. Today we enjoyed sunshine until the last half mile, when the rain came down to celebrate the day.
