Burning of the Clavie

Fire and creosote, community and the Old New Year.

An ancient tradition in The Broch, Burghead, They build then burn a Clavie, carrying it around the town and giving pieces of wood to the locals, believing it will bring them good fortune in the year to come.

A great event, a great night, very little H&S regulations for the crew I think but I never saw anyone in real danger, apart from maybe the crew. As Dan Ralph, Clavie King put it: " The crew are dispensable, the public not so"
