Back to school
A trip to London to catch up with my old friend Chris and soak up some culture. Fifty one years ago we first met, as freshers fresh out of grammar school. In those days every trip to London for me included a visit to the Tate to see the Blakes (William, not Peter), so a major Blake exhibition this winter ("his largest show in a generation") was a powerful draw. It did not disappoint, bringing together work from all around the world.
Tate Britain also currently features Steve McQueen(the artist, not the star of The Great Escape)'s project to display photographs of every Year 3 class in every London primary school. Extras show two of the huge panels, though not the hordes of school children who visit daily; the noise of all those small voices combined and echoing in that huge space was quite overwhelming.
Chris and I also took the opportunity to plan our joint septuagenary celebration, back at our old college next summer.
