I compelled myself to do most of the rest of the Christmas shopping - then was released like a kid on the first day of the holidays into the bright sunny day for some gardening. Within ten minutes I was stripped down to a vest - all the better to soak up a winter’s supply of vitamin D.

A half buried stick produced this fine looking fungus.

Later, a fine roast pork with fennel (my best crackling yet) and a slightly disappointing tarte tatin.
