Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Valiants - Frieda-Frieda (recorded 1957, Culver City CA)
Best known for their doo-wop hit This Is The Nite, the Valiants were led by Billy Storm and produced by Robert 'Bumps' Blackwell, which is how their version of Good Golly Miss Molly, which he co-wrote, came to be released months before that of Little Richard, whose voice Billy Storm (born name Billy Spicer) emulates. They could certainly rock, as is shown on this, backed by the Bumps Blackwell Orchestra featuring Don and Dewey, and found on the B-side of two of their singles for Bob Keen's Keen label in 1958. I found it today on CD1 of Soul City Los Angeles - West Coast Gems From The Dawn Of Soul Music.
