THESE THINGS ARE SENT TO TRY US!
I was intending to tidy up in our lounge today because there is a lot of “stuff” around, but things turned out rather differently.
Our dishwasher has been playing up but it’s quite old, so this afternoon, after pulling it out from under the worktop, we went down to John Lewis to look for another one. We decided that rather than calling someone out, paying £100 for the privilege, and then finding we needed to pay a lot more money for a spare part, it might be easier to cut our losses and just get a new dishwasher.
When we got back from John Lewis, having found out that the one we liked was “out of stock” and deciding we would wait until after Christmas, we came home to find the kitchen floor flooded! Arghhhh!! It’s a good job I have lots of old towels in the airing cupboard.
We have spent the last two hours trying to dry the floor and move the dishwasher back under the worktop but every time we moved it, more water flowed out. We were also wondering why these things never happen in an old kitchen, but wait until a new one has been installed - another one of life’s little mysteries! Our next door neighbour, Mike, is now over trying to help Mr. HCB decide what to do for the best - so I’ve left them to it - they certainly don’t want a woman around asking stupid questions and getting in their way!
Fortunately, earlier this morning, I had taken this shot of the rosebuds that I blipped last week and have now opened up, thinking that a shot of Mr. HCB’s frustrated face wouldn’t be quite as pretty - but I've put one in as an extra though. I did ask him to smile, but he said this was the best he could do! We are both feeling very frustrated and I think it might be beans on toast for tea this evening.
Meanwhile, my sister has just text me to say that Mum is better today and sitting in her favourite chair in her living room, so that’s good news.
Under Door 17 of our Advent of Change Calendar today for the Lord's Taverners charity it says, “Today you have enabled a young person living with a severe physical disability to enjoy a specially adapted game of cricket.” Mr. HCB is certainly happy about being able to help youngsters do this - as cricket is one of his passions all summer long.
“You don't do kind deeds
expecting kindness in return.
You don't do kind deeds
because you deem the recipient worthy.
You do kind deeds because it's who you are,
and because you understand the powerful difference
your gentle hand makes in this dreary world.”
