Pinus sylvestris

Today's the day ……………………… for a Christmas tree

There is something so distinctive and very grand about a mature Scots Pine.  These ones are just along the road from us and always look magnificent - especially with a bit of blue sky above.

Our Christmas tree is a Scots Pine too - growing in a big pot in the garden for most of the year- and then having a couple of weeks of being in the spotlight during the festive season.  I discovered it maybe about fifteen years ago now, when I was weeding.  Back then it would have been about 6 inches high.  I put it in a pot and over the years it has grown into the 6 foot tree that it is now.  I'm very proud of it - even though it is more than a little wonky and lopsided.

And if it keeps going for a few hundred years - it might end up looking like the one above ……………………..
