Wide Wednesday: Christmas Theme

Bobsblips has chosen "Christmas Theme" for today's Widwed challenge.

I popped into town to have lunch with the lass who was my secretary for 20 years from 1993-2013, along with another retired colleague and his long-term secretary. It was nice to have a good catchup. That meant it was easy to pick up a few extra Christmas bits & pieces, and to get my blip of a corner of Newcastle's Christmas market including this huge German-style "Christmas Pyramid". It appeals to us particularly as we have a small table version which my Editor bought on a trip to German Christmas markets several years ago, before they became so popular over here. We call ours "the Fairycopter": I blipped it 4 years ago.

You can also see Earl Grey on his column on the left of the photo. A local lad, he was Prime Minister of the UK from 22 November 1830 to 9 July 1834. A member of the Whig party, he was a long-time leader of multiple reform movements, most famously the Reform Act of 1832. His government also saw the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, in which the government purchased slaves from their owners in 1833. The famous tea is also named after him.
