Vintage glass baubles!

An early start for Henry Mollie and I, leaving home at 7.10, which was a tad later than Jon who had to drive to London today. More about that later!

Dropped Henry at college, but horrendously slow traffic and so Mollie and I didn’t get to the city until 9. Mollie off for a whole day of shopping, and me to the office. At lunchtime I met her for a brief 30 minute walk about, only to find Henry with her too. Only half a day at college so that he can revise for a test tomorrow apparently. They went off to do more shopping and we met up at 5 to go home.

Jon got in just after us. He had been to London to survey 2 trees, one in Dulwich and the second in Hampstead. He had a colleague to share the driving, and they went right through central London, passing Marble Arch, Victoria Station, The Oval, Hyde Park, the Gherkin and The London Eye, to name those he recognised! I mentioned about the congestion charge...his boss is going to check it out!! Anyway, jobs done and a lot of hours driving.

While Mollie cooked tea Jon and I chose and cut off a branch from our corkscrew hazel, and after dinner I got all my glass baubles out of the glass cabinet, and decorated the branch. The pink and blue bauble is my favourite, second down on the right. I did some close ups so that you can see how old they are. Lots have the tops broken. So far I haven’t broken any more this year! This ritual is something else that brings me the traditional feel of Christmas, the same as making my wreath. Both with cost nothing, but I imagine this is how the Victorians would have celebrated the season. Without the excesses we have today.

Now I need to wrap a few more presents, before another early night!
