Great White Egret

A couple of local rarities to be ticked off today, firstly the Water Pipit at Wilstone Reservoir Check out RCB for a photo, and then onto a new location for me, the Chess Valley for the wintering Great White Egret.

As you can see the GWE was found, but not exactly easily. I parked at Chenies and looked from the bridge where it had been reported earlier this morning - no sign. Walked all the way to Latimer and explored the lakes beyond - no sign, walked all the way back, taking my time to scan all the valley - no sign. Returned to the bridge 100 yards from the car and there it was. I'd have missed out on a nice walk if it'd been there first thing.
