Common Enchantments

Night of a Thousand Candles

My friends N and J joined me at Brookgreen Gardens tonight for their annual event of 1000 Candles. It was very cold! We walked around the gardens for three hours enjoying the many candles and lights.

There were candles floating in every pool of water. We get there before dark so got to watch the workers wearing waders light these candles. There were so many! They had candles along the sidewalks and on posts. There were also gazillions of lights in all colors in the trees and bushes. There were Chinese lanterns and other decorative lights.

Brookgreen Gardens also is home to a large number of bronze and sandstone sculptures. I did not even try to get photos of them all!

This photo is at the pond in the oak garden. Lights hanging like weeping willow branches are reflected in the water where there are many floating globes with candles inside.

I hope to make a slide show when I get home to share more photos of this place. It was well worth the trip!
