Shell Perdido SPAR
Arrived at the 'Thialf' location just after coffee time. Just in time to see the barge with the Perdido topside to be moored on the 'Thialf' stern. On one side the Belgian tug 'Union Manta' holds the barge exact on position with her Dynamic Positioning, while on the other side the American tug 'Kelly Candies' controls the stern. The 'Thialf' will move in towards the side of the barge with her DP system and lift the module off the barge. Then the barge will be towed away and the 'Thialf' will move over to the SPAR buoy and put the module on top of it. The SPAR can be seen on this picture, the yellow floating drum left of the 'Thialf'. It is a little bit hard to understand maybe, but the big module on the barge will be placed on that small yellow drum. And afterwards, even more modules will be installed on top.
Describing what a SPAR is, is not necessary, check this site and you will know it all.
Tomorrow I will show you a picture with the module on top of the SPAR buoy
