Town Hospital

A much better day today weatherwise with lots of sunshine. My blip is of the entrance to the old 'Town Hospital', now the island police station. The hospital was built in 1742, originally as a House of Charity for the poor. It soon afterwards was used as an orphanage and infirmary. It was administered by a committee of parish constables, procureur of the poor and church rector. Over the years the site expanded to include a workhouse and a lunatic asylum. The final patients left the building in 1986.
