I had to ask our son-in-law how he knew this was a book I would really like when he gave it to me. He did admit to having had a bit of help from our daughter, but then he said it was a book he couldn’t imagine anyone else reading, so it must be ideal for me! How right he was. A journal that explores our place in the natural world and our links with the past through story, illustration and photography . . . perfect! They know me too well.

We are now home after a trouble free journey north - light traffic and hardly any lorries. We set off early so Gordon could get to football in Carlisle, which is where he is now - the two teams he regards as his home teams playing - Bradford and Carlisle.

We have had a lovely few days away - wonderful to share in our grandaughter’s birthday and a family Christmas, made very special by our daughter. And we got a couple of days in France.
