Christmas leftovers

..for Boxing Day.

Does anyone know the real reason the UK calls 26th Dec 'Boxing Day'?  I've never heard a definitive reason, just a few halfhearted attempts, like the rich of years gone by boxing up leftover food for the poor.

Anyway, this might have been what we received, though I bet the swizzers would have kept the mulled wine.

It's been a filthy wet dark grey day so a still life this morning seemed the only option.  The traditional Boxing Day walk was a non-starter, but after taking this we did go into town for a mooch round and a coffee.  I read in the Guardian that the Sales might make something like £4 billion - but not in Winchester they won't, the place was deader than a centarian rat.
