Boolboonda Tunnel
We drove through Mondo and on to Mt Perry following the rail trail. I will call it a rail trail as tracks and sleepers have been removed. At times we we up steep gullies away from the rail following a creek bed. Then on the other side of Mt Perry took a side road to find the tunnel.
Constructed in 1863-64. 192 meters through rock unlined and unsupported. Was part of the railway line between North Bundaberg to Mount Perry with the object of opening up the Mineral and Agriculture of the area. Line closed in 1960. A colony of bats have taken up residence.
