3rd To 4th Century AD

Today we explored the Grand Palace here at Rhodes, once owned and occupied by Emperor Victor Emmanuel of Italy.  Many of the mosaics were 'taken' (read: looted) centuries before from the island of Kos and re-embedded here, and are very well preserved.  I didn't think of doing much research on Rhodes in the months prior to our departure because I thought that the Old Port was all there was, minus the Colossus, plus some beaches.  The nice thing is that there's a surprise every day.

It is too bad that the ferry doing day trips to the island of Symi isn't operating in the winter, at least not for day trips.  We'd have had to spend at least two nights there, and AW isn't in the mood for yet another move, and, really, there is no urgent need for this.  There will be a next time sometime, but there are also so many other places to see in this country.

We had a late morning, as usual.  After some five hours of walking around and having some fresh fruit juice near the Old City, we walked back to the hotel where I conked out for a couple of hours.  To make sure I could sleep in peace, AW went out for another stroll himself.

Beautiful, perfect weather today ... there's much to be thankful for as the year draws to a close.  There are a couple of extras again --
Extra 1 -- the front entrance of the Grand Palace
Extra 2 -- the mosaic of the Medusa, just as ancient and detailed
