Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Ragged Point Lookout

We headed out this morning driving north on California's Highway #1 toward the Big Sur Coast, specifically to Ragged Point for a late breakfast. The restaurant is beautiful and we've enjoyed meals there several times in the past. Today's meal was as good as ever.

After breakfast we drove further north to the itty bitty community of Gorda; it's really just a stop in the road with gas pumps, a restaurant, and a general store. There we turned back southward because we're currently staying in Cayucos.

Coming down the coast we stopped at the little area of San Simeon State Park Pier to look around. There's a little general store and deli, but we learned it is closed on Monday and Tuesdays and a renowned wine tasting room that is open every day, but wine tasting wasn't part of our plan, so we headed across the highway to the Hearst Castle gift shop and museum and it is also the place where tourists purchase tickets and then they embark on the tour to the castle by way of bus up the hill several miles to where the castle is located.

Next stop was the tourist community of Cambria; it's kind of an artist community. We walked around a little and stopped in a bakery for a late afternoon cookie stop.

It's been a good day. I think any day on California's Big Sur Coast is a good day and the same is true of California's Central Coast where we are currently spending January vacation days.

Tap the magnifying glass at the bottom of the photo to see the house that sits (hangs) there on the side of the cliff. Egads!

Good night from Cayucos.
