posh
Allegedly the word "posh" had its origins in the snobbishness of P&O passengers travelling to India from Britain. It was the cooler northerly facing cabins which they demanded "Port out, Starboard home"
A Shetlander Arthur Anderson shared the founding of the company in 1837 and P&O were proud to serve Orkney and Shetland islands as well as India and the Far East.
Our only journeys with the company were by their fine steamers St Clair and St Ola from Aberdeen and Scrabster
