Almost the end of a long day

We’re up just after six to go home. The taxi arrives as planned at 7:15 and the taxi driver defies ice and tragic to get down the mountain in record time. There’s a queue to get a reissued ticket at the station, so Claire waits in line while the rest of us go off to find pastries and coffee.

Angus consumes a “double eclair” (chocolate and vanilla) followed by a Croix de Savoie. We get allocated coach 12, get through passport control, and end up waiting on a frozen platform for the train, which then experiences an incremental delay that climbs to 90 minutes.

We get to St Pancras, dump our stuff at the flat, and head to Paddington for our trip to mum’s. We have enough time to gobble some food before catching the Plymouth train to Newbury where we change to the Bedwyn service.

Mum meets us at the station and we’re ask in bed by nine. Bliss.
