Volkstrauertag
"People's Day of Mourning", Germany's equivalent to the UK's Remembrance day with the exception that it not only remembers the armed forces but also all the citizens who lost their lives as a result of armed conflict and oppression.
The various war memorials in our village are the central points of a march the village brass band makes after the church service. This one on the wall of the main church remembers those from WWI & WWII.
The top row central plaque is for those who lost their lives and the two wing plaques show the date of death of those who were called up but survived. The larger bottom plaque is the soldiers who died in WWII the largest number in Russia (see extra)
On the way home after the dog walk, did encounter the march as it came to an end and posted a short video, rather hurriedly taken.
