The Reading Rooms...
A dreich start compared to yesterday.
First thing was a dead calf in one of the sheds. Hadn’t noticed it looking down in the lugs yesterday so don’t know if it was pneumonia or it might have got stood on as there was a cow bulling last night when I checked them. Any way - same outcome.
Brought the last field of spring calvers in and weaned the calves , vaccinated them , clipped their backs to stop them sweating and shut them in the slatted shed. So a noisy few nights ahead.
A trip to the vet this afternoon to get the 3 stitches taken out the terrier’s nose. It was like holding a greased rugby ball, but we got there !
Another evening of Dad’s taxi duty as Junior off out again.
This plaque is on the wall of the vets surgery. It was originally built as a reading room in the days when it was a mining village. When I was wee it was the doctors surgery until they took part of one of the fields we farmed to build the current one in the 1980s. Now it’s a vets surgery . Who knows what it will be a hundred years from now ? It’s like a local undertakers in Dalkeith used to be a butchers shop - that always amuses me when I pass !
