There and back again

Sun Rise ?

It was so dark this morning with low clouds and at Lamberts it was freezing!

The sun had come and gone behind that low cloud but there was a red tinge over Lyme Bay and you can just make out the sea. On the right of the gap in the skyline is Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast. Over on the left of the picture is the Isle of Portland, not really an island as its attached to the main land. On the seaward end is Portland Bill with is lighthouse. There is a large harbor which was once a Navel Base and last year they held the Olympic sailing events there.

Just off Portland there is a strong tidal race where some seven (if I remember right) tide meet. Old (like me) members of the Andrew will remember their time coming and going into Portland when it was the HQ for sea training for the Royal Navy. All new crews went through there and the FOST team before the ship was deemed fit to enter active service. Fun times!!!!!!!!
