Please weep for John.....

John R Godley was a leading light in the early immigration to Christchurch and has stood in Cathedral Square for many years gazing at the Anglican Cathedral with pride.
8 years ago Christchurch was devastated with a series of earthquakes and while there have been some wonderful buildings erected to replace those lost, Christchurch Cathedral as you can imagine has been beset with endless argument about replace or repair with the outcome finally being repair so we are going to have a rebuilt Cathdral in the middle of our central square of modern buildings but The  Boss fears that he will not live long enough to actually see it ever finished.
Poor John has been looking at this for 8 years.
There are a couple of extras taken in the Square which still contains gross examples of the damage and the reconstruction. It will be many years before it is a “proper central city square” again.
In spite of all this there was a replacement “Cardboard” Cathedral erected in 2 years that has become the most recognised building in NZ
You can read about this here https://www.nzstory.govt.nz/stories/a-cathedral-made-out-of-cardboard/.
It only cost 5 million so didn't generate any angst about its construction.
