Frost Flowers!

First I've seen this winter! There had been an overnight frost and then it was  a beautiful sunny day, the temperature hovering around 5C, much more normal! Frost flowers only form when the temperature drops below -8 and are the result of sap in damaged Birch twigs expanding when frozen. Sounds prosaic, looks lovely, feels icy and melts when touched, although you expect them to feel like cotton wool!!
Last day of 2019.
