In Transition
The sun was shining this afternoon and the outdoor thermometer registered an unseasonably warm 51 deg (F). We decided to visit the downtown waterfront site of the former Georgia-Pacific pulp and tissue mill, which is being redeveloped -- at a glacial pace. The large rusty tanks were originally housed in a building which was demolished around them quite spectacularly!
One of the current features of the site -- I'm not sure it's permanent -- is a bicycle pump track* shown in the extra. It didn't look very exciting to me.
* A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping"—generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing.[1] It was originally designed for the mountain bike and BMX scene, and now, due to concrete constructions, is also used by skateboard and scooter riders, and accessible to wheelchairs. Pump tracks are relatively simple to use and cheap to construct, and cater to a wide variety of rider skill levels. (Wikipedia)
