Nicky and her Nikon

View up the valley

Last night we went out for supper and the meal was delicious - we find many restaurants here tend to over salt the food but thankfully this did not happen. For example, the frites here are thin and delicious but ever so salty. The only problem was it gets so hot in the restaurants as they tend to overheat them, by the time you leave you are gasping for air! Gavin started Dry January yesterday, which I think is a good thing to do once a year.

Today is our last full day here. Gavin, Luke and Thomas went skiing, and after two days of no queues and us thinking that visitors had gone home, it was once again very busy today. My brother and I took Xena for a long walk through the village and down through some open fields where there were some other dogs walking, all off the lead. A woman and her dog, who was off the lead, came walking towards us and her dog instantly ran up and attacked Xena who went flying in the snow. Then she proceeded to shout at me and tell me that Xena needs to be on a lead as her dog is aggressive! On the whole I have not found dogs here to be as well socialised as in the UK. Xena was fine but got a fright.

Later we had to take Xena to the vet for her passport checks, and I asked the vet about the rules and etiquette with dogs being walked on leads. She said that here dogs need to be walked on leads and if another dog attacks your dog and your dog is not on a lead then you have no legal rights. She also mentioned that there are aggressive dogs around who are known to bite other dogs. Seems very different from walking dogs in the UK.

I took this photo in the village. The snow is starting to melt and there is only a little bit forecast for the weekend, it needs to snow to ensure there is a good base for the rest of the season. The extra is of my brother and Xena sitting in a sunny spot on the sofa. Xena loves to sit near to someone, preferably on someone! She is a very tactile dog who loves to be right by your side.

Now we must start packing up, and get ready for the journey home tomorrow. Gavin, my brother and Xena are leaving by car at about 3am and the rest of us are flying home on a midday flight.
