Day 003/20. Sun Beetles galore.
A small walk in the winter sun around Marwell this PM. Hard work, but getting fitter.
The Sun Beetles in the Tropical House have obviously been busy recently. The last time I saw one, there was only the one in the tropical house to be seen. Today we counted 25 by a single tree. They seem to be on a breeding spurt. I don't think I've ever posted a picture of one before, so here you go.
Sun beetles are medium-sized beetles that live in tropical Africa. They have a yellow with brownish-black front wings that can be seen on its back. Their body is shiny black. This species reaches a size of around 1 inch (2,5 cm) .
