Smoked Haddock Chowder
Today's the day ..................….. to cook
Does anyone remember 'The Cooking Canon'?
He was a proper Anglican Priest - real name the Rev. John Eley - and he used to appear at lunchtime on the BBC Television series, Pebble Mill at One back in the 1980s. He was a very good, down-to-earth cook - and he used to show you how to make something that you felt sure you could manage. But his recipes were always interesting and a bit out of the ordinary. Sometimes he would be joined by another good cook - Rabbi Lionel Blue - and the banter between them was very entertaining. They were a bit like a forerunner of the 'Hairy Bikers'.
Anyway, when I was in the supermarket today, looking for inspiration for tonight's supper - I saw some Smoked Haddock which was on special offer. That instantly made me think of The Cooking Canon's recipe for Smoked Haddock Chowder.
I looked out my ancient cookery book 'The Cooking Canon Entertains' - and the rest, as they say, is history …………………….
