The Laurie and McConnel building.

This is Fitzroy Street Cambridge, showing the replacement Laurie and McConnel's general store, built 1903. The original having being burnt down. At the top was a restaurant with a bandstand on the roof. Quite an unusual feature which is still there, but alas no bands these days. The store closed down in 1977 due to a planning blight. Habitat restored the building in 1982, but eventually closed down. Since then the building has hosted several stores, the latest being HMV. How long that will stay there I am not sure.
