2020 Saturday — Monarch Butterflies
At 11:00 this morning, Mr. Fun & I went on the free Monarch Butterfly Tour at Morro Bay Golf Course. We were able to observe the butterflies and learn about their amazing migration to California’s Central Coast. The butterflies are just about gone from here for this season.
We were also told how the golf course works to enhance the land to benefit the surrounding community and various creatures that live there — we had no idea! And it is one of the most beautiful golf courses we’ve ever seen. Some of my photos are from the lookout parking lot way above the golf course.
We were told this morning that the Pismo Beach Monarch Grove lost two of their trees a short time ago and that those two were the majority of the grove. We were also told that the Morro Bay Golf Course always has more butterflies than Pismo (news to us), but they do not advertise that because the golf course is not set-up for large groups of visitors, but they plan to get set-up in the future to provide for visitors.
Learning about the golf course was also very interesting. Our guide said it is a misnomer that the butterflies clump together for warmth. The butterfly temperature is no different if they are in a clump or solo. He said it would be more appropriate to refer to their “clump” as a “butterfly ‘sports bar’ because they are all looking for a mate and being together helps that.” The guide answered lots of questions and gave a very interesting presentation.
