Ploughing

With the recent frost of the past few days, the ground is now hard enough to take the weight of the tractor and the plough so the farmers, ever vigilant for favourable conditions, have started work on their fields.

I never fail to be impressed by the sheer power of tractors. Pulling those blades through all that dense, thick soil is a considerable feat.
I often speak with the farmer you can see in this picture. He told me that when he was a boy, there was a workforce of 30+ farmhands to work the same fields that he and his teenage son now manage alone.
How times change.
