Flight paths

Leaving for India on a rainy, misty day...the airplane is heading the wrong way here.
Later: I noticed the plane completely avoided Iranian airspace (it usually flies over Iran avoiding Iraq - this time it did the opposite) . 2 hours after we landed at Bangalore a Ukranian plane was shot down after taking off from Tehran.
One can't help but think about the middle east as one flies over it.
