Murmuration, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex

Thousands of wading birds live on the estuary at this time of year. I'd heard they occasionally rise up in these magical, swirling flocks but this was the first time I'd seen it. There was a fantastic noise of beating wings as they took off to perform their trippy shapes.
